Announcement:

David Koehn’s impressive debut chapbook, Coil, winner of the 1998 Midnight Sun Chapbook Contest has been re-issued in a second edition. The second edition has minor revisions by the author, a new cover design, notes on the poems, and a previously excluded poem, “On Harley Davidsons & Bowhead Whales.” In recent years David has resurfaced as a promising young voice in contemporary
poetry—this after almost a decade of silence. This re-issue marks David’s recent flurry of publications in dozens of literary journals such as The New England Review, The New York Quarterly, and VOLT. New readers of David’s work will find in Coil many of the qualities so many found endearing in the promise of the poet’s early poems.

Description:

“In David Koehn's well-titled book Coil, the words, the lines, the sentences coil around their subject matter, coiling sensually, teasing out the subject's resonances and desires, and coiling like a wrestler, determined not to let the subject go until it reveals its meaning. These fine, rich poems grapple honestly with a complex world, and make love with it at the same time. It is a difficult feat to accomplish, and David Koehn does it with style.” Andrew Hudgins

“David Koehn’s Coil is an impressive debut. His language is packed with intense music of the heart. In streams, on skis, in bars, Koehn knows his landscapes, and his people, and he writes about them with poise, authority, and heart.” Jim Daniels
